Wedding location - Monastero Santa Rosa - Amalfi Coast

A BREATHTAKING LOCATION ON AMALFI COAST

The Amalfi Coast is perfect for a destination wedding. There are loads of incredible places to have your ceremony and reception. One of the best options is an ancient monastery that overlooks the sea, the Monastery of Santa Rosa.

The monastery is a place full of history. It has a small chapel in the garden that would be perfect for exchanging vows. The most spectacular infinity pool on the Amalfi Coast could be the place for your cocktail reception, and then you could have lunch or dinner at the Il Refettorio restaurant.

A PLACE FULL OF HISTORY

The monastery was built in 1681 by Sister Rosa Pandolfo on top of the ruins of a previous church. The church had been donated to her by the city of Conca dei Marini. The monastery was dedicated to Saint Rose of Lima, a saint Sister Rosa Pandolfo had always admired. The Sisters of the monastery also helped the local population by digging a channel to bring water from Monte Vocito to the convent and Piazza Olmo.

The building was abandoned for many years until, in 2000, Bianca Sharma spotted it from a cruise in the Bay of Salerno. She was so moved by the building’s beauty that she decided to buy it and renovate it into a hotel, which opened in 2012.

A FASCINATING 5-STAR RESORT ON THE SEA

Today, Monastero of Santa Rosa is a hidden gem located on a winding road on Costiera Amalfitana, leading up to the village of Agerola. Tucked away against the mountainside with stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the resort has managed to retain much of its original character from its days as a monastery.

Original grating still exists. They allowed the cloistered nuns to communicate with the outside world. Nuns kept a garden where they grew herbs, and they would use these herbs to prepare medicines. They would give these medicines to people through this grating, along with some sweets. The legend is that sfogliatelle sweets were born here.

The garden was connected to the monastery by a bridge at the time, and it continues to be so now. This bridge allowed the nuns to leave the monastery while remaining unseen.
